SILICONE THICKENING ADDITIVE

Silicone Thickening Additive is can be used with our silicone (platinum or RTV cure) to thicken the silicone so that it can be brushed on. It works instantly and makes it easy to get the most out of your silicone without waste. Just mix your silicone (base and catalyst) then add a few drops of our Silicone Thickening Additive and start mixing. You will immediately start to notice the silicone thicken. If the silicone still isn't thick enough, add a few more drops until you reach the desired consistency. Once its as thick as you want it, just use a brush or tongue depressor and apply it to the item you wish to replicate. Silicone Thickening Additive will not weaken or strengthen your silicone mold and does not effect the cure time. We recommend the thickening agent be kept in room temperature.

SILICONE THInning fluid

Silicone Thinning Fluid is a diluent that is clear, odorless, and has a low Viscosity which was especially designed to reduce the viscosity properties of RTV and Platinum cure silicones. It is essentially non-toxic, non-irritating, and non-sensitizing. It has a workable temperature range of -40°F to 550°F, and is heat and age stable. It can survive indefinite exposure at temperatures up to 149°C. Because of the extremely low surface tension of this fluid, it aids the flow of silicone compounds.

Normally, this thinner is added at a 5% level based on the weight of Silicone base being used. At this level, no loss of physical property can be observed. Incidentally, the amount of Silicone catalyst is also based on the amount of Silicone base being used and does not have to be increased because of the thinner being added. An example of a proper batch would be 10 + 1 + 1, which is 10 oz of Silicone base + 1 oz of catalyst + 1 oz of diluent. The room temperature viscosity of this silicone oil is 50 centistokes (cSt).

As a thinner, when added, alters the properties of Silicone in the following manner:

(1) Reduced Viscosity. Silicone's with 10% thinner will show a much lower viscosity, and air release properties will be enhanced. Flowability will also be noticeably improved. This insures that the Silicone will get into the detail better.

(2) Increased Chemical Resistance. In some applications, the presence of Silicone diluent improves the resistance to chemical attack and thus extends mold life. In fact, some firms make it a practice to wipe additional thinner onto the face of the mold periodically to bolster the release and the life of the mold.

(3) Lower Durometer. In concentrations above 10%, the thinner will begin to plasticize the Silicone to produce a cured product that is softer than usual.

(4) Lower Tear Strength. Again, in concentrations above 10%, the thinner will begin to lower the tear strength and the tensile strength, while elongation is increased.

As a release agent, Silicone fluid can also be used as a mold release agent. Simply brush a thin layer it on to the surface your silicone mold (enough to make it shiny) and then add your casting material. This will allow you to yield 5X  more pulls and it keeps your silicone surface lubricated. Since it is water free, you don't have to worry about it causing bubbles in urethane based products.

Urethane Rubber 50 is a versatile, two component liquid castable polyurethane elastomer. Storage & Shelf Life
The containers should be stored in a cool, dry area that is protected from direct sunlight and moisture. Storage temperatures should not exceed 80°F. The shelf life of the factory sealed containers stored under these conditions is six months. Containers that have been opened should be resealed immediately after material has been removed in order to prevent solvent evaporation.

Mann Ease Release 200

Features

    Ease Release 200 is easy to apply, fast drying and effective over a broad temperature range from 70°F to 500°F.

    Ease Release 200 provides excellent release, precise duplication of mold details, and less rejects for faster production.


Ease Release 200 is an excellent general purpose release agent for making molds and casting parts. This product will release polyurethane elastomers, polyurethane foam, epoxy resin, polyester resins, platinum & tin silicones, urethane rubber and thermoplastic polymers. Ease release 200 is effective on aluminum, chrome, platinum silicone, epoxy, rubber and steel molds.

Application

  1. Thoroughly clean your mold with Mold Cleaner 2508 or any suitable cleaner to remove all traces of previous coating and oils.
  2. Apply Ease Release 200 using aerosol spray for bulk grades. Hold the can or spray gun 6 to 8 inches from the mold surface to ensure a light even coating. When the molds are new or have been blasted with an abrasive, “season” the mold by applying a heavy coating of release. Heat the mold to process temperature, then wipe the excess with a rag and reapply a light coating of Ease Release 200 before regular molding.
  3. Ease Release 200 is fast drying and requires no baking during the normal molding process.
  4. Reapply a light coating before each molding.

  • Use adequate protection when handling any release solvent system.
  • Skin contact may cause dryness.
  • Wear safety glasses or their equivalent to prevent eye injury.
